Historical Background


The Pupkewitz Group of Companies is a recognised contributor to key sectors of the Namibian economy. Covering various retail segments through its four Trading Divisions, namely: Pupkewitz MegaBuild and Builder's Warehouse; Pupkewitz Motor Division; Pupkewitz MegaTech and Pupkewitz Catering Supplies.

These businesses are grounded on a rich history of entrepreneurship, dating back to 1904 when Max Pupkewitz started a wagon-building business in Okahandja and a General Dealership in Ausspanplatz in 1925. The late Harold Pupkewitz followed in his father's footsteps by pioneering the landscapes of his respective markets and turning the group into the market leader that it is today.

The spirit of entrepreneurship is increasingly stimulated on the premise that Small and Medium sized Enterprise development (SME’s), is of key importance in creating jobs, reducing unemployment and advancing broad based economic empowerment.

This is evident in the active involvement of Pupkewitz MegaBuild and Pupkewitz MegaTech in the development of 500+ emerging SME’s in retail trading operations with previously disadvantaged Namibian entrepreneurs, mainly in the rural areas. The Group is constantly pursuing to source local supply, where the quality of the product, continuity of supply and price competitiveness of the product can be guaranteed.

PUPKEWITZ MEGABUILD is acknowledged as the oldest and largest building material and hardware supplier in Namibia. PUPKEWITZ MEGABUILD and Builder’s Warehouse offer its clients a professional services via its 16 branches including a new retail branch, Megabuild lifestyle centre. The company stock more than 20 000 line items, supplying from foundation to roof.

PUPKEWITZ MOTOR DIVISION has been in the Namibian motor industry since 1954, selling passenger vehicles as well as light and heavy commercial vehicles via a network of dealerships country-wide. Our top quality brands include: Toyota, Lexus, Volkswagen, Nissan, Datsun, Honda, GWM, Accessory Fitment Centre, Hino trucks, Nissan Forklift and Pupkewitz Auto.

PUPKEWITZ MEGATECH is Namibia's leading electrical wholesaler offering a wide range of quality brands and products for electrical and industrial contractors, mines, industries and municipalities. It has outlets in Windhoek, Oshakati, Walvis Bay and Gobabis. The company offers a wide range of specialist services including Relux lighting designs, lighting audits, tender pricing and quality technical advice to ensure customer satisfaction through service excellence.

Based in Windhoek, PUPKEWITZ CATERING SUPPLIES provides the best selection of catering and laundry equipment and supplies to both the hospitality and public sector, country-wide. The product range is comprehensive, offering everything that any hotel, lodge, restaurant, caterer or industrial kitchen could need. They specialise in turnkey projects.

STAYTODAY is a Namibian based E-Commerce provider that sells last minute accommodation and special getaway packages. Since 2015, StayToday also started providing event registration and ticketing services. The latest venture of the Today group is PayToday, which is a very exciting mobile payment solution that will be done in collaboration with Nedbank Namibia.


Pupkewitz Foundation


The PUPKEWITZ FOUNDATION adopts a broad-based approach, in pursuit of educational excellence, support for the aged, developmental sport, cultural innovation and the promotion of child nutrition projects for learners (specifically Early Childhood Development), apart from supporting university students by offering their talents within the international arena. More recently, community-based environmental management was included in the foundation’s portfolio, including educational and entrepreneurship components. The Foundation supports the collaborative work of NGO’s through various government ministries and other Foundations, forging valuable public-private partnerships and is in operation since 2003.

The Foundation sponsors approximately N$ 4 million annually to various projects and sponsorship requests under various categories. These categories are aligned to the National Plans of the Government of Namibia as well as Vision 2030 and Harambee.
